Qualifying
Liking the new qualifying format of 4 x 10 minute allocated rider sessions then fastest times per rider added together and averaged to give qualifying position.
So as we only had 3 riders we were allocated slots 2,3 & 4
, Mart was due out first but a tilt sensore issue meant we had to swap riders around to allow time to fix the problem so Pete went out first and after a few laps to get tyres up to temperature stuck in a 1:13.0 a full 3 seconds off pb from last year and our best lap of qually.Harry was out next and was straight on it even though he hadnt had any time on the track until qualifying and put in a 1:13.3
taking it fairly easy , Marts issue now sorted set of and increased his lap times lap after lap ready for his flying laps but on his first flying lap he leaned it into the infamous turn 2 and just caught
THE BUMP on full throttle and he was heading for the barrier , the bike got off lightly with just a ground down foot peg and casing cover and a pulled wire on the quickshifter ,Mart didnt get off so lightly with a small hole in his right palm ,knock and graze to left elbow and a possible fractured ankle still to be x-ray'd. Great team effort getting damage sorted aswell as our sponsors from central classic restorations getting stuck in with repairs and cleaning. Luckily marts warming up time was still a descent 1:14.9 so the combined average times put us 1st in class and 8th overall grid possition for the start.
Race
Harry (Blades )was to start the race but worryingly we were notified of possible smoke from harry's bike on the warm up lap which we thought was coming from the exhaust wrap on the link pipe, Harry had a great start but our rivals at Track Prep ( Andy Guy ) had a flyer and passed us by the first turn , Harry came passed a few times and no sign of smoke so we thought panic over and he started to gain on Andy and after around 14 laps he got past and into 1stplace and pulled a 1.5 second lead , but after a couple of more laps Harry noticed his bike was losing power and ANDY managed to catch back up and get back passed into the lead , the bike was now really losing power and suddenly the engine let go in a big way down hanger straight , lukily close enough to the pits to allow Harry to coast in only to be held at pit entrance by the officials wanting to give Harry's bike a full MOT while Hary was shouting at them to let him have the transponder and get it to the team , in the end NO LIMITS official Mark Berry could see the frustration on Harry's face and took the transponder off himself and gave it to Harry's brother Sam Blades ,who had run the length of the pits and then legged it back up like Ussain Bolt where Pete (Wright) was waiting ,Pete was now on a mission to catch up as we had now dropped to around 7th in class ,Pete's next 30 laps were all almost identical and the consistency soon paid off getting us back into a podium posistion then towards the end of his stint we moved into 2nd and briefly took 1st again before pitting to swap over to Martyn (Siviter),but more drama as when Pete pulled up ,Mart realised his footpeg was loose and I have to say a massive thanks to Darren & Andy from Central Classics who shot to the tool chest to find a 19mm spanner and get it tightened and send a very secondhand and battered Mart on his way , and what a stunning ride he put in aswell , really have no idea how he even got on the bike let alone race it , but not only that he did a full 55 minutes putting in equal times to Pete and just as consistant lap after lap after lap,Harry's bike was terminal so Pete's bike was prepped and fueled and ready in pit lane for the last stint , unfortunately now too far behind to catch Track Prep ,second place was a brilliant result after all the drama we had overcome also to finish 3rd in National 600 class was the icing on the cake aswell as finishing in the top 10 overall ,a truly remarkable team effort and a massive thanks to our amazing race sponsors of
